It's fair to say that I've never lived in a big city before. I studied Law in Manchester, but I lived out in the suburbs, and I've never lived in London. The change in moving to Bangkok was enormous, and you can almost understand the attitude some people had that the whole country revolved around the city. It's massive.
My comments about living there echo those of anyone who has lived in a big city like London, New York, Paris or Hong Kong: There's always something new to do or see, you feel like you're living in a 24/7 world that never sleeps, there's an amazing contrast between the incredible wealth and the incredible poverty (often within walking distance of each other), and so on. It really was excellent, and although I personally gravitated towards living in rural areas, I can see why my mum loved Bangkok (hello mum!), and even when I was living hundreds of kilometers from a skyscraper, it was great to be able to go back and visit.
A very remarkable place.
